Five Year 11 students from Robert May’s School. Two national titles in a single night. One objective left — the STEM Racing World Finals in Singapore.
ATOMIC enters STEM Racing for the first time. A new team, a new name, and a very steep learning curve.
A podium in our first ever season. Enough to prove the team worked, and enough to make us want the top step.
We took the regional title and set the fastest time of the event. The car was quick; now everything around it had to catch up.
Seventh in the country. A hard result to take, but the judges’ feedback became the entire scope of our next season.
Back-to-back regional titles. This time we arrived with the portfolios, the pit display and the process to match the car.
ATOMIC are crowned National Champions of the Development Class at the UK National Finals — and take the Sponsorship & Marketing Award on the same night.

Beyond the track
Winning is the point of the competition. It isn't the point of the team. Everything below runs alongside the engineering, all year.
We invite primary school students into Robert Mays and show them what we have built — then talk about how much wider STEM is than anything a timetable covers. We have run these for years. The feedback we value most comes from parents emailing to say it changed how their child sees what they are learning.
An evening for our community, our sponsors and the people who might become sponsors. Everyone designs, builds and races their own miniature F1 car, with a timed wheel-change challenge for good measure. It is the best night of our year.
We designed and built a VR experience for Race Night so visitors could get inside the engineering rather than just look at it. Competition, technology and entertainment turned out to be a very effective way to explain what STEM Racing actually is.
Our own travel-friendly dice game, designed and packaged in ATOMIC colours, built to get adults and children playing together through the fun of F1. Marketing that people actually want to keep.

Every one of these organisations chose to back five students they had no obligation to back. Here is what each of them actually does for us.
Our lead partner, and the reason a great deal of this is possible at all. DisasterCare Platinum backed ATOMIC when we were a team with a good idea and not much else, and their support is what turns our design work into a car that actually gets built. Their logo sits in the most visible places we have because that is exactly what they have earned.
Ansys put professional-grade simulation in the hands of five students. Being able to run real aerodynamic analysis instead of guessing is the single biggest step forward our engineering has taken — it is the difference between hoping a design is faster and knowing it is.
3DPRINTUK give us access to production-quality additive manufacturing, which means we can iterate properly — make a component, test it, learn from it, and make a better one. Fast, high-quality parts are what let a school team develop like a real engineering outfit.
Travis Perkins noticed what we were doing before we ever asked them for anything. When they heard we were collecting waste plastic to build a sustainable pit display, they got in touch and sent us what we needed to make it happen.
